Recently 26 After Schoolers boarded the Grapevine Vintage Railroad for a nostalgic trip to the Fort Worth Stockyards. The railroad traveled along the historic Cotton Belt Route and was serviced by two vintage locomotives. The passengers enjoyed riding in authentic 1920s and 1930s Victorian-style coaches as they took a step back in time and experienced train travel as it was in the glory days of the expanding West. The train pulled into the Fort Worth Stockyards station and was right in the middle of the Stockyards National Historic District where the Old West comes alive. The After Schoolers enjoyed shopping and visiting museums culminating with the traditional cattle drive before re-boarding for the trip back to Grapevine.

Following the train ride, the After Schoolers dined at Hard Eight BBQ in Roanoke, the unique dining capital of Texas.

Those enjoying this fun event were Gary and Barb Thornton, Tom and Sue Davis, Don and Susan Hebert, Warren and Sandra Richards, Eileen Whittaker, Jim Fox, Judy Riffel, Helen Hayes, Gayle England, Pat Hamblin, Ann Madigan, Linda Stuart, Jesse and Christine Lovelace, Fran and Darla Chupp, Bob and Sheryl Cook and Butch and Leslie Cook who were visiting from Colorado.

The After Schoolers Club will meet the second Friday in June at 10:30 a.m. in the Robson Ranch clubhouse. If you have a passion for education and supporting educators, please join us. The club will not be meeting over the summer months, but please join us for our fall kick off in September. For more information call president Pat Hamblin at 940-262-0083.
