Catholic Club meeting review

Rick Hagen and Cary Piel

Rick Hagen and Cary Piel

Robson Ranch Catholic Club met on Tuesday, September 13, at 7:00 p.m. at the lovely home of John and Mary Goodpaster. The meeting was opened with a prayer and then our guest speakers were introduced, Mr. Rick Hagen and Mr. Cary Piel who are criminal defense attorneys. Their practice is here in Denton.

Mr. Piel had previously been in the Marines and had also been a Texas Ranger. Mr. Hagan obtained full membership in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association as a bareback rider in 1985 before injuries ended his career. Everyone was quite impressed with both men’s knowledge and professionalism and how they explained the procedures that they followed while defending those charged with crimes. When defending those who were charged with DWI they many times used a 12-step method similar to the methods used by AA. Ninety percent of those charged are guilty but can the government prove it? Mr. Hagan and Mr. Piel both use very humane techniques while defending those charged with crimes.

The meeting was called to order, and Marge Lane informed everyone that the Loretto House had moved to a new location, which is on Bonnie Brae Street. The Loretto House aids women with difficult and unplanned pregnancies. The Loretto House will be sponsoring a baby shower for a needy pregnant woman in the area. We will be asking for all those interested in donating to this cause. Marge also will be collecting Christmas Bags for the men at Our Daily Bread. These are Items for hygiene and other personal items for the upcoming cold weather such as hats, scarves and gloves.

The meeting was ended and everyone enjoyed an array of snacks and socializing.
