Featherheads hold memorial tournament

The Featherheads a group of residents that play golf at Robson Ranch Texas, held a Memorial Golf Tournament to honor one of our members that recently lost his battle with cancer.

Ron “Ronnie” Holt had told his wife Tanya that he did not want a funeral or memorial service, but when Larry Scott asked Tanya what the Featherheads could do to honor Ronnie’s memory, she suggested that we hold a golf tournament in his name and she would supply the prizes.

On Aug. 9, with the help of Roger Martinez Direct of Golf at Robson Ranch, we held a Ryder Cup style tournament with 16 teams of two players per team. Nine holes of “Best Ball” and nine holes of scramble. The teams were the Eagles and the Hawks. On the Eagle Team, Scott Doherty (Ronnie’s son-in-law) driving Ronnie’s golf cart and playing with his clubs, represented our “fallen” friend. It was fitting that the Eagle Team was the winner of the tournament.

Since Ronnie had recently had a hole-in-one, we held a closest to the pin contest on each of the par 3 holes during the tournament. Winners were number 4 Roger Wells, number 7 Tom Moses, number 11 Wayne Casalino, and number 14 Jim Olsen.

And interesting enough all prize money was then turned over to our Support Our Troops money.

The Featherheads collected a dollar for every birdie or eagle on each day of play from all players that day with a max of five dollars. We then donate the money collected on a quarterly basis to the Robson Ranch TX Support Our Troops.

At the fall meeting of Support Our Troops, the money collected this past quarter will be donated in name of Ronnie Holt.
