Instead of working out alone to those boring cardio and strength training workouts, try the Ranch’s newest form of fitness training, Boot Camp, offered by residents Barbara and Mike Shippy. One-hour classes are jam packed full of exercises choreographed to your favorite 50s, 60s and 70s music. Tone all muscle groups, strengthen the core and increase cardio capacity all while burning 400 to 600 calories per session. With the dedicated instructor and group of fellow Ranchers all sweating, and even at times singing parts of the songs together, it’s easy to stay motivated and go for that last crunch.

Barbara welcomes all fitness levels as the exercises can be modified to your individual ability while at the same time pushing your body to its limits. During class you will work on building strength and endurance, improving cardiovascular fitness and improving balance (core), flexibility and agility. The low-impact classes consisting of warm up exercises, stretching, strength training and cardio exercises that target different muscle groups to help ensure maximum results. Classes are choreographed to your favorite songs and designed in a way to be different all the time to keep you challenged each and every session. By combining cardiovascular exercises (marching and kicking) along with interval training and strength elements using free weights and resistance of your own body weight, you will tone-up and drop pounds.

Barbara has over 30 years of experience in providing quality and proven fitness workouts and strength and conditioning programs. She freely admits she didn’t choose the fitness world, the fitness world chose her as she fell in love with fitness training and instruction. She creates a relaxed yet motivating environment allowing everyone to naturally venture outside their comfort zone and achieve individual goals. Both Barbara and Mike spend time perfecting the music selections ensuring the classes are upbeat without a moment of downtime. Mike manages the music and sound system creating an environment that produces synergy and makes every class feel new, fun and exciting.

Fitness Boot Camp is great for exercisers of all levels, especially those looking to get in tip-top shape, break past a fitness plateau, drop a few excess pounds or to just keep moving. Ranchers with medical issues or past knee, hip and/or back surgeries can do this! Proper body mechanics are practiced in all moves. Not only are the classes filled with a variety of fun workouts, they also provide you an exciting, challenging and rewarding experience and bring you to your highest fitness potential.

Fitness Boot Camp is held in the Sports Center each Tuesday noon and 5:30 p.m., Thursday at noon and Friday at 11:00 a.m. The cost for each class is $2.
