The Living Well-sponsored Firecracker 5K Walk/Run brought smiles and cheers to 78 participants this past July 4. Participants gathered around 7:00 a.m. near the CATC to a beautiful morning and a hint of a cool breeze. Several four-legged critters accompanied the two-legged walkers/runners as Fred van Naerssen announced the start of the race promptly at 7:30 a.m. The three-mile route was clearly marked with directional signs; there were walk leaders, water stations and SAG carts along the way.

As the participants rounded the corner near the finish line, each was directed to the watermelon station to receive their slice of ice cold watermelon generously donated by Doug’s Country Market. Since this is an annual event, consider participating next year. After expending a few calories you can find your spot on the parade route and watch the entertainment. Or perhaps you would like to be a member of the volunteer team. This year 28 volunteers helped ensure the event was a great success. A big thank you to all who were involved.
