The Fourth of July is a time to honor our great country’s birthday. The holiday isn’t all about fireworks, though; it is also celebrated through the uplifting spirit of song. On June 30 the Kiwanis Club Robson Ranch brought a concert filled with a variety of patriotic music to the Denton State Supported Living Center. Dressed in their red, white and blue, the KCRR troupe was a force to be reckoned with musically. Led by Brenda Jones on the piano, the group passionately sang from the heart, though a bit off key. But none in the audience noticed as they often sang right along with the familiar tunes. The one-hour program included such favorites as The Star Spangled Banner, God Bless America, and a Salute to the Armed Forces among many other traditional songs honoring America.

Brenda and Gerald Jones, KCRR members, mentor residents of DSSLC through the Kiwanis Club sponsored Aktion Club, the only service club for adults with disabilities. The Aktion Club provides adults living with disabilities an opportunity to develop initiative and leadership skills and to serve their communities.

Looking for a way to serve your community? Come join the Kiwanis Club Robson Ranch every first and third Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the Clubhouse. For more information contact Jim Galbraith at [email protected].
