Each year Kiwanis clubs around the world join in a day of volunteer service. It’s a global effort, but it’s made of personal commitments. The Kiwanis Club Robson Ranch celebrated its One Day on October 28 by servicing the New Hope Equine Assisted Therapy Center.
New Hope, in Argyle, Texas, was the ideal community service project for the KCRR. It is a non-profit organization specializing in therapeutic horseback riding services. Their efforts are primarily directed toward children and young adults with a wide variety of disabilities. This service to kids was in perfect harmony with the Kiwanis Club’s mission to serve and improve the lives of children.
So with hammers, screw drivers, hoes and wire cutters, a group of 10 Kiwanians arrived at New Hope with tools in hand, sleeves rolled up and ready to work. Some cleared brush and tree roots from the trails to make way for a smoother path for the riders. Others mended fences surrounding the horses’ paddocks using recycled bailing wire and a bit of elbow grease.
The Kiwanis Club checked off many of the tasks on New Hope’s “wish list,” all with the final accomplishment of “job well done” and proving each person really can make a difference.
