The weekend of Oct. 2 and 3 found the Robson Ranch Men’s Golf Association (RRMGA) hosting the Wildhorse Golf Club Championship. While all 337 members of the MGA are eligible to play in the Championship, only 84 chose to test their mettle against the best Robson Ranch has to offer.

The event was a two-day, 36-hole total gross score event. No handicaps were used to adjust the scores, but handicaps were used to place the participants in their Flights. There were two Blue Tee Flights, three White Tee Flights, and two Gold Tee Flights. Only those members who chose to play from the Blue Tee were eligible to win the RRMGA Club Championship.

The weather was great, as was the golf. The championship came down to the last hole on the last day with three players all within one shot of each other, and all of them having the chance to win it on the last hole. The participants who had already finished were watching and cheering on from the patio above the green on the 9th hole, on the North Course as the tension and excitement swelled. At the end, Ross Riley, with a total gross score of 154, eked out a one stroke victory over Llynal Carey.

Following their rounds, the participants gathered outdoors on the patio for some camaraderie, stories of “what if” and “if only,” some food, and a few cold beverages, all while socially distancing and adhering to all the occupancy guidelines. They celebrated friendships, a great two days of golf, and a new Club Champion and the winners in the other Flights. The winners in the other Flights were: Dan Nicolet, Bill Tillman, Larry Casazza, Jimmy Hayes, James Gale, Bob Schorn, and Phil Hull. Congratulations to all the winners and participants.

The RRMGA has play day events scheduled each Thursday throughout the year. Some of the upcoming events in October and November are: 4 Man “Devil” Ball; the 2020 Shootout, The Turkey Shoot, 4 Man Best 3 Balls, and Invite a Friend.

Membership in the RR Men’s Golf Association is open to all men at the Ranch. The Association sponsors weekly play day events and tournaments throughout the year. There are players of all skill levels and handicaps, so come on out and join the fun. Membership applications are available at the Pro Shop and online at www.rrmga.com.
