On December 3 the Red Hat Ranchers met at the Robson Ranch Clubhouse and carpooled to Denton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center to sing Christmas Carols. Wearing Christmas sweaters, scarfs and Santa and Reindeer hats, the Red Hat Ranchers sang and interacted with the residents. The hostesses for this wonderful day, Tawana Arnett, Dorothy Hogan and Bert Zeitlin, had spent weeks planning for this event. Tawana was our most able accompanist on the piano. Bert printed up song sheets with the Christmas Carol words for us and the residents then she led us in song. Dorothy contacted the Rehab Center and made all of the arrangements. Geraldine Gawle provided entertainment; she wore her floppy reindeer hat and long Christmas socks. The staff thanked us for coming and making everyone’s Christmas a little brighter. This is our third visit to the Rehab Center, and we would like to make it a holiday tradition.

After the caroling we went to Bert’s house for a scrumptious lunch of salad, chicken and rice casserole, muffins and cupcakes. Then we played a fun game. Each lady brought a wrapped gift and a $1 bill. Each lady selected a wrapped gift not her own to open, and after it was unwrapped we had to guess who you thought purchased the gift. The ladies with the most correct answers split the kitty; you could go home with your own gift or swap with a sister. The winners were Geraldine Gawle, Betty Gardner, Ilene Schlesinger and Dorothy Hogan. The most unusual present was the live decorated Christmas tree that Geraldine refused to give up because she had the perfect place for it in her house. Everyone guessed that the beautiful present in gold with a big gold bow was wrapped by Queen Glenda Brown since she is known for her fabulous gift wrapped packages. The door prize donated by Bernadette Fideli was won by Rosemary Weinstein who drew her own name out of the bowl. This was the perfect way to start off the holiday season with fun, friendship and laughter. The Red Hat Ranchers look forward to many more fantastic events in the future.
