Republican Club November meeting: What about free speech?

Russ Bafford

Unless you have been in a coma for the last year, you know there is a war against free speech in the USA today. There is social pressure from many quarters of society to conform with a point of view shared by a very loud and in-your-face group of people. We have seen news stories from many different places about such groups who have vandalized vehicles, buildings and the property of others as well as assaulting other people because those other people held a different point of view than those who attacked them. Has civil discourse died in the USA? The first amendment says: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

To address this important topic the Robson Ranch Republican Club is pleased to have Dr. Thomas K. Lindsay, Director of the Center for Innovation in Education at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, as the featured speaker at the November 7 meeting. The epicenter for this crusade against free speech, ironically, seems to be the colleges and universities in this country. Dr. Lindsay will update us on what the current situation is in many of these institutions of “higher education”. Dr. Lindsay is a widely recognized expert on this particular subject. Join us in the clubhouse for a social time beginning at 6:30 p.m. on November 7 and followed by the regular meeting at 7:00 p.m.
