The weather conditions are less than ideal. It is cold unless you are from Alaska, Canada or somewhere way far north; let’s call it 34 degrees. The wind is blowing 20 mph plus, and you are looking at your other three buddies wondering and hoping someone will wimp out first. The sky is cloudy where there is no sun, just lighter shades of clouds. This is the time you ask yourself is it really worth it to get out on the lake in conditions like this. Our guide has a boat that used to be a single cabin cruiser. I say used to because no one is going to stay on this boat because this boat is full of fishing gear, tackle and whatever else he needs while he is on the lake. Once we have departed the marina the boat settles into the water with an easy gait and handles the cold, waves, wind and turbulence with an easy graceful flair. Once we are down to the fishing all the weather conditions are forgotten as we start to reel in the fish. What an emotional roller coaster this adventure has become. The four of us had a really outstanding day. The fishing was just fabulous, and the outdoor setting was just beautiful. We threw back as many as we caught because you can only keep two fish over 20 inches each. So you decide at the time when you land the fish whether you are keeping him or giving him back to the lake water. What a decision. Do I keep this one or throw him back for a chance at a bigger one? This is the type of dilemma you have to make a decision on. What do I know I am only a fisherman; no one is going to believe my story anyway.
