Robson Riders Motorcycle Club barbecue meat, summer heat and rain at the lake

Riders on the Possum Kingdom Lake trip.

Motorcyclists are adventurous, always looking for a new place (or restaurant) to visit. Such was the case for our August dinner ride on Thursday, the 23rd. If you can’t stand the heat, don’t ride in August! But a good number of us did to Bumbershoot BBQ in Argyle, Texas. Located behind Fuzzy’s and Earl’s on HW377, these folks craft their menu out of an Airstream trailer. No problem, though, as we motorcyclists are right at home in trailer parks! Everyone indicated that they enjoyed what they ordered, and the St. Louis ribs were said to be particularly tasty. And eating outdoors under very small umbrellas was not an issue, as it gave us a late summer opportunity to continue to work on our tans. Thanks to Dennis Dotson for being Ride Captain and Scott Baker for serving as sweep.

Martin Munoz offered to lead the breakfast ride to the Upper Park Café on Tuesday, August 14. However, Mother Nature had other plans and some much-needed rain greeted us that morning. Not to be deterred, a number of members headed over to the Lonesome Spur in Justin via four wheeled vehicles for a good breakfast and great conversation. We will get back to the Upper Park Café!

The Club’s Quarterly Meeting and Dinner on Thursday, August 16 was a great success, with over 25 members attending. We enjoyed the hospitality and good food of the Wildhorse Grill. Once again, we were entertained by the ride videos of Vicki and Scott Baker. It’s great to be able to again see the scenery you may miss while you are concentrating on riding. Their great video capture of mama bobcat and her kittens in their backyard was a showstopper! Mike Conley stepped us through club business (schedule, membership, finances), but focused on rides and events. We are riding, touring and dining more often and everyone loves it! Mike also walked us through our successful transition from MyGrove to GroupWorks.

The club enjoyed another overnight ride, this time to Possum Kingdom Lake, on September 11-12. Diane and Joe Ace, Dee and Jim Sico, Marti and Mike Conley, Scott Baker, Joyce and Stan Brein and Jan and Dave Riddle made the excursion, along with friends Karen and Doug Henderson and Beth and Steve Collins. We enjoyed good eats on the beach and a few games of Texas Toss before Captain Mike Conley shuttled us around the lake on a pontoon boat. The view at Hell’s Gate was fantastic! Thanks to Dave Riddle for arranging the water transportation. We had great accommodations at the Best Western Hotel in Mineral Wells and dinner at the Mesquite Pit, just a short walk from the hotel.

Hell’s Gate. With rain accompanying us the entire trip home we were able to practice our inclement weather riding skills!

September’s dinner was on Thursday, the 27th at Luigi’s Restaurant in Denton.

See you on the road! Beware of cagers and keep the rubber side down!
