The Rovers in Yellowstone

Ron Ice

Members of the Robson Rovers RV Club enjoyed an epic trip to the Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks in June. Scott and Lynn Barringer, Bob and Lauren Hahn, and Ron and Nita Ice (also Ron and Nita’s son, Stefan, and grandson, Gavin) arrived at Coulter Bay RV Park in Grand Teton National Park on June 12. The group was somewhat apprehensive that first evening as we experienced small hail, then rain and finally snow flurries, but the weather improved every day thereafter. We visited several visitor centers, made a trip into Jackson, WY to see the famous Cowboy Saloon and took a hike around some of the lakes led by Ranger Bob (not Hahn). During our outings we saw elk, moose, deer and bear. On the final day the clouds broke, and we were able to see the peak of Grand Teton, the highest peak in the park.

Following three days in Grand Teton we proceeded north to Fishing Bridge RV Park in Yellowstone National Park, the first national park established in the U.S. Yellowstone is a huge national park, and the points of interest require travel through ever changing landscapes. For anyone that might not know, Yellowstone is actually the caldera (floor) of a “super volcano” that is still active. We visited Old Faithful, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, saw the Roosevelt Gate at the northwest entrance, thermal basins, rapids, waterfalls, hot springs and mudpots. Among the wildlife we saw herds of bison (some shared the roadway with us), elk, mule deer, bear (both Brown and Grizzly) and swans. In the evenings we played Mexican Train and shared our experiences of the day. Everyone enjoyed the trip, and we welcome all Robson residents who have an RV (or have an interest in RVing) to join Robson Rovers RV Club. Meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at a member’s home. For more information contact Ron Ice at 214-762-3289.
