RRWGA holds First Annual Eclectic Tournament

Mary Beninato

The RRWGA hosted a brand-new tournament this year – The Eclectic. It consisted of two days of net individual stroke play, with the second day giving players a chance to improve their scores on each hole. The event was chaired by LaDonna Womochel who would like to give a big thank you for the support of the RRWGA Management Team – Linda Scott, Alice Wright, Donna Phillips and Darlene Lamb. LaDonna did a wonderful job with this new event and certainly used creativity in managing it.

There were 52 women who played the tournament. Everyone received a tee gift on the first day—a choice of colored socks. We then headed out to start the round. Fortunately, the early 8:00 a.m. tee time helped us beat the heat of the days. The second day was the chance to improve with only improved holes recorded.

The most improved players for the second day were: Flight 1: Linda Scott, 15 strokes, Flight 2: Barb Bettiga, 15 strokes, Flight 3: Brenda Alford, 18 strokes, Flight 4: Carole Babcock, 16 strokes, Flight 5: Virginia Wheeless, 19 strokes.

Grand Improved Winner: Jeanie Martinez, 20 strokes. She received a beautiful crystal bowl to store tees, her improved scores, etc.

Winners 1st-4th place were paid in each flight. The winners for each flight were as follows:

Flight 1: 1st: Okcha Cummings, 2nd: Linda Scott, 3rd: Gale Hicks

Flight 2: 1st: Shirley Green, 2nd: Joy Pashby, 3rd: Barb Bettiga

Flight 3: 1st: Paula Bone, 2nd: Jeanie Martinez, 3rd: Betty Lou Knowles

Flight 4: 1st: Angie Gay, 2nd: Monica Bishop, 3rd: Teresa Blackburn-Korn

Flight 5: 1st: Virginia Wheeless, 2nd: Maureen Fitzgerald, 3rd: Linda Watrak

A buffet lunch of salads was served as the score tallying proceeded. Everyone brought a $10 wrapped gift which LaDonna distributed starting with the highest scores in each flight (thank you, at least we received some honor for our efforts). Everyone had a great time and we hope to see more join the event next year.

LaDonna would like to thank all the players who supported this and our RRWGA events. She would also like to extend her thanks to Teresa Blackburn-Korn, our photographer; David Thatcher, head pro; Larry Casazza, pro shop and the golf operations, who responded to our requests.
