The After Schoolers at the Fort Worth Stockyards

Nancy Burns

The weather was beautiful as the members of the After Schoolers experienced a wonderful guided walking tour of the Fort Worth Stockyards. The history of the Old West came alive as our knowledgeable guide, Joel, led us through Mule Alley, the Livestock Exchange Building and the original pens of the Cattlemen’s Catwalk. Joel shared stories about Bill Pickett, Quanah Parker, his own grandfather and many others. As we watched the cattle drive along the brick road we could imagine the difficulties of the cattle drives long ago. We enjoyed a tasty lunch at Riscky’s Barbeque before heading back to the Ranch. It was a fun way to learn about our fascinating Fort Worth and spend time getting to know each other.

The “school year” is over for the After Schoolers Club. We are going on summer vacation! If you are looking for a service organization to join, please consider the After Schoolers. We are committed to provide support to our two “adopted” schools in Denton. We meet the second Friday of each month, September through June, and our first meeting of the 2017-2018 school year is September 8, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in the Medina Room in the clubhouse. Dues are $15. For more information please call co-presidents, Darla Chupp at 262-1022 or Gayle England at 262-3234.
