WGA Hoof’s ‘n Heels

Linda Farmer

The Women’s Golf Association recently hosted our 11th annual Hoofs ‘N’ Heels Invitational Golf Tournament. Players included 108 ladies from our WGA, WLN and area clubs including Oakmont, Holly Lake, DeCordova, Dallas Athletic Club, Lake Kiowa, Ft. Worth Golf Association, Horseshoe Bay, Thorntree, Trophy Club, Frisco Lakes, Lantana, Pecan Plantation, Lake Park, Woodhaven, Nutcracker and Indian Creek. This is always our biggest tournament of the season, and many ladies trade their visors and cleats for bling-studded hats and boots to wear to the awards luncheon.

The tournament pairs players for a 6-6-6 format into five flights. First, second and third place prizes were awarded in each flight with the following results:

Flight One: Claudy/Nix, Nortunen/Lair, Hayes/Stillwell

Flight Two: G. Bull/Rogerson, Marshall/Heller, Pettigrew/Adams

Flight Three: Tillman/Carlton, Valentine/Reinbeau, Alford/Smith

Flight Four: Busick/Roberts, McKie/Farmer, Fabian/Morrison

Flight Five: Perry/Morrison, Revering/Saunders, Harwell/Burden

Other prizes were given in each flight for closest to the hole and straightest drive. Winners included Lisa Dean, Gabie Bull, Kerry Carlton, Barb Bennett and Chris White for closest to the hole. Straightest drive winners were Pam Melton, G. Beall, Sallye Ortiz, Jeannie Martinez and Debbie Reed. Pam Melton of Frisco Lakes scored a “hole-in-one” on hole number 4! It was Pam’s first time to play our course. I predict she will be back! The team of Kurita and Fitzgerald received special recognition for having the most challenging round.

Congratulations to Joyce Marshall and her committee: Darlene Lamb, Donna Phillips and Diane Bent for putting together a great tournament. Joyce wishes to thank our MGA treasurer, Linda Watrak, for keeping track of funds and helping Joyce stay on budget. Ryan Coffman, Christian Boyd, David Thatcher and Tom Wright made sure the course was in great shape and the scores were all recorded accurately. With tie scores in every flight, this was no easy task. Thanks to Gil Ortiz and Guy Bent for organizing MGA volunteers to line up carts, load bags and shuttle us to and from the driving range. Judy Markley worked with our Wildhorse Grill staff under the direction of Rhett and Jeremy to present a beautiful and delicious lunch.

We could not have had such a successful event without the generous support of our sponsors: Brian Boylan of Robson Ranch Sales, Amanda Williams of James Wood Cadillac-Denton, Julie Willis of UMB Bank-Denton, Jim Smith of Adams Furniture, Terry Hundley of Grapevine Golf Carts, Argyle High School Golf Team, Bill Marshall of BBS Realty, Nelson King of Metro Golf Cars, Chris Robinson of RFG Wealth Management, Mike Miloser of Aquatic Pools, Ted Dunson II, DDS, Britt Watson of First State Bank, Mona Price of Freedom Title, Gary Gordon of GMG Builders, Kirstie Sterie of Denton Regional Urgent Care, Anthony Cruddas of FastSigns of Denton, and Dave Bowles of Lone Star Golf Academy. Special thanks to Tyler Clark of Promo n’ Stitch for helping find and personalizing the tee gifts.

In keeping with our tradition of charitable giving, a donation of $500 was presented to SOT president Mike Hoernemann by Joyce Marshall.
