Wine and Dine – Mudd’s Good Eatin’

Lolly Evans

He’s back! Chad Mudd is back in Krum and has re-opened Mudd’s Good Eatin’. As many of us old-timers will remember, Mudd’s used to open on Wednesdays only for the Robson Wednesday night dine-out group. Oh the fun we had, not to mention the good eatin’. After a 12-year absence the restaurant is back in the same old location at 209 McCart Street, the main drag in Krum, TX. Chad is still doing all the cooking, and many of our old favorites are back.

Mudd’s is open on Mondays for lunch, serving barbecue until they run out. Otherwise Mudd’s is open for dinner Thursday through Saturday. His famous huge pork chops are back, along with chicken fried steak, fried chicken, chicken fried pork chops and barbecue. On Fridays they feature catfish. Chicken fried steak runs $12 and all the sides, except salad, are served family style and all you can eat, including biscuits, honey, green beans, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and gravy. I had pulled pork and it was great, and I took home most of it. You may want to consider splitting a meal, which those over 65 may do and still have all-you-can-eat sides. Dwight had the big smoked pork chop and said it was as good as ever. Ten of us went and nine out of the ten loved it. Kid meals are available if you want to take the grandkids.

And just like the old days, you can still bring your own wine with no corkage fee. Mudd’s will provide glasses. One hint, we went fairly early and by the time we were finished people were standing in line outside.
