Genti’s Pizza and Pasta

Lolly Evans

Many of you will remember Genti’s Italian Restaurant when it was located in Ponder. It was a favorite with Robson diners. As some of you know, they lost their lease there and moved to a location in a strip mall on Swisher just off 35E. Well now they are in their own free-standing restaurant a little farther west on Swisher at 3700 FM 2181.

The new restaurant is very attractive inside. It has one drawback for some of us, but an asset for the owners: a full bar. The old Genti’s allowed you to bring your own beverage of choice. We had brought a bottle of wine with us, which they kept at the cash register until we left. I did try their house red wine, a cabernet, which I liked ($6.25). Bread and butter were served along with my vino.

The menu is much the same but maybe a little pricier. Dwight tried the Chicken Rollintini ($15.95). He said that while it was not “wowee,” it was very good. It was accompanied by a very nice salad made with non-iceberg lettuce and fresh veggies. I helped him a little, so I know it was above average. I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan, which came with a side of spaghetti ($9.95). It was good but again not “wowee.”

They do have a kids menu and a wide variety of pizzas ranging from $6.95 for an 8-inch Neapolitan to the Italian Special starting at $12.95 for the 8-inch. You may also order deep dish pizza. All the usual Italian dishes are available ranging in price from $8.95 for Baked Ziti to $16.95 for Seafood Marinara. Some of the same items are available for lunch starting at $7.95 for the Baked Ziti. Lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Happy hour (half-priced drinks) is Monday through Friday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. We will definitely go again.
