The Wine Knots gathered at the home of Sharon and Rich Heidebrecht to celebrate all things German. Sharon and Rich both claim German roots and were anxious to immerse the group in German culture. Sharon set the mood with music on her accordion as well as the piano and had wine glasses at the ready while Rich introduced the German wines of the evening.

Dr. Heidemanns-Bergweiler Winery is one of the most esteemed wine producers in the Mosel area of Germany. Vine growing began here in the early 16th century. The vineyards are planted with Riesling grapes, and wines are fermented with modern techniques in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The taste testing began with Dr. Heidemanns Pinot Noir. This elegant, medium-bodied wine offered delicious flavors of cherries and red berries with a soft, balanced finish. Our white selection for the evening was Dr. Heidemanns Riesling. This sweet wine with apple and juicy peach flavors was a hit with many of the ladies. Its refreshing start and smooth creamy finish made it seem like dessert.

The German theme continued in the food arena. Sharon spent hours preparing homemade bierocks! These tasty sweet potato rolls were loaded with beef, sausage and sauerkraut. An array of sausages, brats and kielbasa filled the table along with German cucumber salad. A German chocolate cake, claimed to be made by Chuck Newcomer (see also Candy Haven), added the finishing touch to another great evening with the Wine Knots.
