On Tuesday, August 16, the Wine Knots went on an adventure for their monthly get-together to visit Chef Point Café in Watauga for a wine and dine tasting party. As many know this restaurant is an active Conoco gas station/convenience store that was made into a fine dining area.

The evening started with the wine tasting, which included five California wines, two whites and three reds. The first wine was Sidebar Sauvignon Blanc from High Valley, Lake County and was very crisp and tart but also surprisingly dry. The second wine was a No Curfew Chardonnay, which had hints of green apple, pear, melon and buttery oak. The third wine was a Poppy Pinot Noir from Monterrey Central Coast and had hints of raspberry and spice but seemed surprisingly dry with higher tannin. The fourth Wine was a Mettler Cabernet Sauvignon from Lodi, California and had aromas of dark cherry, pepper, tobacco and sweet oak. It was 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Petite Sirah. The last wine was a Buck Shack Red Blend from Lake County and was a blend of Zinfandel, Petite Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. A very smooth wine with aromas of spicy and dark fruit flavors. Overall the group rated the Chardonnay and the Cabernet Sauvignon the highest with the Red Blend not far behind.

The group enjoyed lobster mac and cheese, Italian nachos, fried green tomatoes and What Nots (mushrooms with crabmeat and three cheeses baked in a savory garlic butter). Chef Point Café is a cool place to visit and enjoy the food, wine and friendship.
