Summer is almost over, and the migration of birds going south will soon be underway. Be watching the Robson announcements and the bulletin board for notice of our first fall meeting, which will be in the latter half of September.

For newcomers to the Ranch, the birding interest group is for everyone interested in birds and getting out for a walk in the parks and around the local lakes. The group meets every week or so to go birding. No experience is necessary, just an interest in birds. The group has some experienced, knowledgeable birders who would happy to help beginners and to learn for other birders. We have a couple of informational documents that will help you get familiar with the birds on the Ranch and to help you find local birding hotspots. If you are interested in joining the group, let me know by email and I will add you to our list.

In the past few days a pair of Great Horned Owls have been visiting the Ranch. They have been seen at dusk and early mornings on roof tops. We have also heard them at 2:00 and 4:00 a.m. calling to each other. They may be helpful with the rabbit population on the Ranch as is the resident Cooper’s Hawk.
