Democratic Club looks to Denton’s economic future

Vicki Baker

Denton County has been named number one in Texas with the strongest economic growth forecast over the next five years. Our community is characterized by a friendly, small town feel and is being paired with a vision for smart growth and business investment. Caroline Booth, Director of Economic Development for the City of Denton, shared the city’s vision for the future with the Democratic Club RR during it’s August meeting.

The Democratic Club RR gained insight into the city’s goals for the future, to shape Denton into an even greater community by investing in environmentally and economically sustainable growth, promoting well-paying jobs, keeping locally generated property taxes local, providing high quality schools and maintaining its academic and artistic vibes.

Ms. Booth addressed the city’s plan to expand its economy through new businesses and retention and expansion of current businesses; fostering the thriving culture of business, technology and artistic creation and innovation; and attracting, developing and retaining skilled and talented workers to support existing and future employers. She reported that to support these objectives, the city has awarded tax-related incentives resulting in a net increase in property and sales tax revenues with a 300% return on investment for all the incentives awarded and the creation of over 7,000 jobs since the program’s inception in 1999.
