Designing With Carol: Banded Together

Abby McIntyre

There’s a creative movement sweeping through our little corner of Texas, friend. It seems as though every time I check in with a loved one or have the opportunity to chat with a friend, they have picked up a new talent or hobby. We are all finding new ways to be creative during this unique season. Some have taken up painting, some have turned to woodworking, and others have broken out the knitting needles and dusted off their sewing machines to help their communities. I applaud you for this. I believe it is absolutely essential to have some creative outlet to express yourself. We seem to be living in our own little renaissance with our newfound appreciation for art. Our homes should be an extension of us and reflect these nuances as they happen. That is why this month I am excited to let you in on a hidden gem we have to offer here at Carol’s: Banded Shades.

Growing in popularity and perhaps one of the most unique shades Hunter Douglas has to offer is their Banded Shade. These shades are offered in a variety of colors and patterns that allow you to find the perfect match for your space. When opened, they allow for light to illuminate your home through the alternating bands of opaque and sheer fabrics. When closed they effectively filter the light and provide privacy for your home. One of my favorite features of these shades is how simple it is to change their look. With a quick adjustment of the chain or press of a button on the remote, the bands of fabric on the shade can change positions vertically to create a different design on the shade itself and throw unique patterned shadows into your space. For instance, the Geometric Collection offers an array of designs for the opaque bands themselves. This adds an element of intrigue to the shade. If you are looking for subtle ways to add pattern to your home, these shades are a wonderful place to start.

The Banded Shades also offer more streamlined collections that fit a more sleek, contemporary style. Instead of a geometric pattern running horizontally on the bands, it is a solid band of opaque fabric. This allows less design play when moving the bands of the shade and gives you a more uniform look. These shades offer you the best of both worlds. If you would like a more elegant, formal look in your family room go with the standard bands. If you are looking to add a little spunk in your guest bath or kitchen, try the geometric collection. Whatever look you are going for, banded shades are a wonderful option to consider for your home.
