Sing it with me! Oh yes, it’s ladies’ night, and the feeling’s right. Oh yes, it’s ladies’ night. Oh, what a night?

The Robson Ranch Woodworkers Club has designated Monday nights as Ladies’ Night at the woodshop. Woodworking may seem like a hobby for men, but we can tell you, it’s not! We have approximately 40 ladies as members right now. That may seem like a lot, but we want more! No experience is necessary. Most of our ladies came into the club just wanting to make a small jewelry box or a pen or something for their relatives. They came, they learned and they kept coming back. It’s fun, and you can make something beautiful.

About 18 months ago Joey Misiaszek, president of the Woodworkers, requested at a monthly meeting to start a Ladies’ Night. It was approved and started immediately. Shortly after starting up, Betty Ferguson stepped in and was willing to serve as monitor on Monday evenings for the ladies. Several members have also stepped up to tutor the ladies and serve as a resource.

Our ladies fully participate in all activities including serving on the executive board, making Beads of Courage boxes for the hospital, craft fair projects, chairing committees and lots more. Plus, most of our ladies have taken the monitor class and take their turn being woodshop safety monitor. Here is an introduction to just a few of our Monday night members.

Peggy came to the club with no experience in woodworking. She has extensive experience in pottery and was looking for a new hobby. She quickly learned to make a lot of wood projects, including a chessboard, to accompany ceramic chess pieces, doll cradles, pens, cutting boards, boxes and tables.

Betty readily admitted to no training or skills with wood, but she had a desire to learn and quickly got involved in all aspects of the club. She loves projects that require repetition and lots of sanding. She has made over 800 handheld palm crosses, a Beads of Courage box, two band saw boxes, a meditation bench, trays, toys, cutting boards, hand mirrors and bud vases. Betty is our Monday night monitor. Give her your thanks because without her volunteering to be monitor there wouldn’t be a Ladies’ Night.

JoAnn also came to the club with no experience in woodworking but a desire to make pens. She is not only turning pens on the lathe but also pouring her own acrylic blanks as well. She’s made a Beads of Courage box and is planning on making a band saw box next.

Please come out and see our shop. Take a tour, chat with some woodworkers and get a feel for how helpful and fun this group is. You’ll be glad you did.
