Road Runners Traveling to Mackinac Island

Karen Lyons

Join your friends and fellow Robson neighbors this August as we prepare for a relaxing land journey to Mackinac Island and the Great Lakes region. Beginning our journey on August 13, 2021, in Chicago, we will visit many of the famous highlights such as the “Magnificent Mile,” Millennium Park, and the Wrigley Building. Then enjoy time at your leisure to visit a museum or take a scenic boat ride along the Chicago River.

After two nights in Chicago, we will move on to Traverse City, Mich., the cherry capital of the U.S. From there we will begin our journey to Mackinac Island, stopping along the way at the historic city of Charlevoix. We will learn about the interesting history and famous architecture of Earl Young. Following a scenic drive, we will take a ferry ride back in time to Mackinac Island. This island is a historic natural gem without any motor vehicles, time to savor the quiet. You will spend the next two nights at the magnificent Victorian-era Grand Hotel. Enjoy leisurely strolls, a carriage ride, or relax on the famous porch of the hotel. As we indulge in fudge, island touring, and quaint shopping, you will savor the quiet pleasures of Mackinac Island for an additional day.

After a morning of leisure, we will begin our journey to the town of Frankenmuth, known to the locals as “Little Bavaria.” Overnighting in this Franconian-style town, you are sure to relax and enjoy. Then on day seven, we will visit Dearborn, where we will tour the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. That evening our journey will commence with a toast to memories made on this wonderful summer getaway. We will fly home the morning of August 20 from Southfield.
