Robson Ranch Texans play College Station Tournament

Johnny Blecher

Our >65 AA Robson Ranch Texans, a competitive softball team sponsored by Carolyn Thomas’ Robson Resales, played in their first tournament of the year, April 5 and 6, at College Station. The BoyZ did us proud as they won their division and placed five players on the All-Tournament Team: Bruce Horeftis (batted 5 for 6, .833); Kelly Petre (9 for 11, .818); Rocky Dudley (9 for 12, .750); David McKie (13 for 20, .650) and Johnny Blecher (20 for 22, .909).

Competitive senior softball is organized much like professional baseball, in that teams are rated based upon experience and skill level. The highest level is Majors Plus, followed by Majors, AAA and AA. Our team is made up entirely of Robson Ranch residents yet we play teams that recruit players from as much as a 100-mile radius of cities like Dallas and Houston.

It’s a huge plus that our team can regularly practice and all players are part of our local Robson Ranch Softball Association, playing weekly at our Field of Dreams. The team has five more tournaments planned for this year and their players, including: Jim Reese; George Wendt; Dale Hill; Pat Powers; Randy Brewer; John Metzler; Ramiro Escamilla; Mick Calverly; Clyde Ziegler; Ken Cline; Ron Schwertner; Bob Laderach; Terry Scholze; John Thompson; Coach Paul Dorwaldt and the All-Tournament players listed above look forward to a competitive, yet fun filled season.
