USA Table Tennis National Coach Visits the Table Tennis Club

Don Pooley

On May 19 the Robson Ranch Table Tennis Club was treated to a visit by USA Table Tennis (USATT) Certified Coach Daniel Rutenberg. Coach Rutenberg, with Pong on Wheels (www.pongonwheels.com), has over 20 years of table tennis coaching experience and was the U.S. Paralympic National Table Tennis Team Head Coach from 2009 through 2012. During his time with the club members, he shared specific tips and techniques concerning playing table tennis, and worked with each club member on a one-on-one basis. Each club member enjoyed Coach Rutenberg’s engaging style of instruction and walked away with drills and practice activities they can use to improve their table tennis skills. “I enjoyed visiting the Table Tennis Club and I was very impressed with the turn out and enthusiasm of its members. It was a pleasant surprise to see all levels of play, genders, and abilities within your club,” said Coach Rutenberg.

Table Tennis Club play sessions’ capacity remains at 25 participants and doubles play has returned as a popular option. All play session participants are encouraged to practice good hand sanitizing and social distancing habits. Face coverings are not required for COVID-19 vaccinated players on entering the Sports Center, and face coverings are not required by any person participating in active play during the session.

Current table tennis play session schedule times are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from noon to 2:15 p.m., and Sunday from 10 to 11:45 a.m. in the Gym; and Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 2:20 p.m. in the Multi-purpose Room.
