Six members of the Robson Ranch Pickleball Club attended the 2014 Texas Senior Games in San Antonio from March 31-April 4, 2014. The purpose of the Texas Senior Games Association (TSGA) is to promote physical and mental health and fitness among Texas senior citizens by encouraging them to maintain healthy lifestyles and social relationships, to participate in sports and recreational activities with other seniors and to provide an environment for athletic competition.
Competition was offered in sports ranging from archery to volleyball. The Robson Ranch group only went for the pickleball competition. Men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles were played. Pat Claytor and Sherril Kerr won gold in the mixed doubles. Sherril also received gold in singles and women’s doubles. Ford Roberson won silver in men’s singles while Irene and Bob Romagosa placed fifth in the mixed doubles. The tournament was run like a well-oiled machine and was greatly enjoyed by all. Next year the games will be held April 9-18, 2015. These club members all plan to return.
Recently, elections were held for the new Pickleball Club board. The following were elected for the year 2014-2015: president, Barry Pocock (re-elected); vice-president, Dick Schwartz; secretary, Shirley Waterhouse and treasurer, Doug Hughes (re-elected). Many thanks go to Bob Romagosa and Janet Salvo for the fine job they did on the previous board along with Barry and Doug. This year an additional position was added to help with the running of the club. Two “Members at Large” were elected. They are Kevin Andrews and Ford Roberson. Our members thank all of you for your dedication to the sport of pickleball.
Outdoor play is in full swing now that spring is fully here. Our members don’t let a “little” wind bother them. They can be found participating in mixers and drop-in play mornings and afternoons. Inside play follows a more structured schedule because of so many members involved. Two hundred thirty members have paid their dues for this year, so a system had to be put in place for indoor play to be fair and succeed. This seems to have been accomplished for now!
Clinics are still being offered for all levels of play. Sherril Kerr is the instructor, with help from a number of volunteer members. If you are interested in learning when these are held, check our website at rrdpc.com under “Schedule” and under “More” click on “Clinic.” This will tell you how to sign up for this activity.
So come join the fun and get some good exercise at the same time! We welcome new members.
We play pickleball with relish!
