Members of the Happy Tails Dog Club were treated to an enlightening and entertaining talk by Dr. David Carlton, DVM, on Jan. 13. Dr. Carlton, a retired Texas veterinarian and esteemed Robson resident, kicked off the club’s 2024 speaker series with anecdotes from his extensive career.
Born and raised in Texas, Dr. Carlton shared captivating stories of his experiences as a vet, drawing the audience into a world that ranged from large ranches to urban settings. His dynamic storytelling not only entertained but shed light on the realities of veterinary practice.
Among the tales shared, attendees chuckled at stories of disappearing golf balls (retrieved from a young lab’s stomach), treating a goldfish with a pebble in its stomach, and the wisdom of not getting between a longhorn cow and its calf. Dr. Carlton’s ability to blend humor with the authentic challenges of his profession left a lasting impression on the Happy Tails Dog Club members.
Beyond his engaging talk, Dr. Carlton is a prolific author, with five books detailing his experiences as a vet in Texas. Titles such as Doc, Hey, Doc, Dallas Doc, Country Doc, and Texas Doc offer readers a glimpse into the diverse world of veterinary medicine. His books can be found at our very own local Robson Ranch Library or purchased online at www.DallasDoc.net.
The Happy Tails Dog Club had another exciting meeting on Feb. 10. The guest speaker was a representative from Animal Investigation & Response (AIR), a 501(c)(3) animal protection organization based in Texas. AIR specializes in assisting law enforcement, animal control agencies, and communities with issues related to animal abuse, including puppy mills, hoarding, and disaster relief. Further details can be found on their website animalinvestigationandresponse.org.
The presentation by AIR was highly informative, highlighting the collaborative efforts between governmental agencies and organizations like AIR. This session aligns with the club’s commitment to providing valuable insights into the world of responsible pet ownership.
