At the July 13 meeting, the Happy Tails Dog Club welcomed Krista Doyle, owner of North Texas Canine Massage and Aquatics, along with her therapy-certified 12-year-old Australian Shepherd, Saber. Krista demonstrated canine massage techniques using Saber as her client.

Krista, a licensed massage therapist for humans since 2001, discovered her passion for canine massage in 2010. She has since helped many dogs improve their wellbeing and quality of life. The benefits of canine massage, as detailed on her website, include pre/post-surgery rehabilitation, enhancing athletic performance, geriatric care, and alleviating stress and anxiety.

During the presentation, Krista explained each step of the massage process, starting with the head and neck, then moving to the shoulders, middle area, and, finally, the hindquarters. Saber enjoyed every moment, visibly relaxing under her skilled hands. Krista taught the audience how to use their hands and thumbs effectively when massaging their own dog and emphasized the importance of listening to the dog’s responses.

Krista also discussed the benefits of aquatic therapy for dogs, highlighting its importance for training dogs to be comfortable around water. She stressed the need for patience, especially with dogs that have had traumatic experiences with pools.

The meeting was a great success, with many members eager to try her techniques on their own dogs or to contact Krista for professional services.

Happy Tails Dog Club held a Bark & Brag during the Aug. 10 meeting. A favorite of many members, this is the best opportunity for members to brag about their wonderful dog(s) or grand-dogs. Everyone brought a picture or two of their dog(s) to pass around during the meeting.

On Sept. 14 club members will participate in a field trip to the Linda McNatt Animal Care and Adoption Center and the pet food pantry. Details and sign-ups for this exciting trip will be sent to members in advance. Earlier this year, Happy Tails Dog Club held a pet food drive for Denton Animal Support Foundation, collecting 2,772 pounds of food for the pet food pantry.

Happy Tails Dog Club meetings are held on the second Saturday of each month in the CATC building, Room 103, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Membership dues are $10 per household. More information can be found on the club’s website at www.rrhappytailsdogclub.weebly.com.
