Baby Boomer Sip n Savor: An Exquisite Wine Tasting Journey

Susan Parker

The Baby Boomers had an unforgettable evening at our Sip n Savor wine tasting event where we explored a curated selection of wines from Europe’s most celebrated vineyards. This experience took us on a journey through Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, and Italy, each paired with delightful appetizers that enhanced the flavors of these exceptional wines.

Portugal

Penny and Chuck Trott hosted the Portugal wine tasting. The white wine was Caiu a Noite Vinho Verde. This refreshing white wine features bright acidity with notes of green apple and citrus, making it the perfect aperitif.

The red wine was Eminente Red Blend Reserva. This red is rich with smoky tannins under black fruits that is partially aged in wood.

The wines were paired with Portuguese chorizo pâté on crusty bread.

Spain

Cathy and Ken Kramer hosted the Spain wine tasting. The white wine served was Valserrano Rioja Blanco. This is a crisp, elegant, and refreshing wine made from hand-picked Viura and Malvasia grapes. Citrus and pear flavors are nuanced by floral and vanilla on the long and silky finish.

The red wine was San Gregorio El Vergal Tempranillo. This wine has enticing red-fruit aromas with a touch of gentle spice. The palate is velvety and soft with sweet tannins.

The wines were paired with baked empanadas with salsa verde.

France

Susan and Tom Doty hosted the France wine tasting. The white wine was St. Reine Blanc de Blanc Brut Sparkling. The wine is light but rich, pleasant, and easy drinking, with homage to champagne in structure and biscuit finish.

The red wine was D’Autrefois Pinot Noir. This wine has black pepper and juicy plums on the nose. It has medium tannins, strawberry and red apple notes open up on the palate. The finish is generous, smooth, and fresh.

The wines were paired with French cheeses and a variety of crackers, dried and fresh fruit, and chocolates.

Germany

Bonnie and Marc Busboom hosted the Germany wine tasting. The white wine was Blue Vin Riesling. This wonderful German Riesling is fruit-forward, light-bodied, and easy-drinking. It is a wonderful summer sipper or aperitif wine.

The red wine was Dr. Heidemanns Dornfelder, a delightfully fruity red wine with a hint of sweetness. The intense fruit flavors of blackberry and cherry have a surprisingly full-bodied finish.

The wine was paired with beer brats, potatoes, and soft pretzel bites.

Italy

Julie Eaton hosted the Italy wine tasting. The white wine was Armani Soave Incontro. Intensely aromatic with outstanding notes of rose and acacia as well as almond, spice, citrus, and balsamic notes.

The red wine was Marchesini Montepulciano. This wine is a great value in an everyday red from Southern Italy. Featuring bright cherry fruit flavors with a touch of leather on the supple finish.

The wine was paired with flavorful meatballs and marinara sauce.

Our Sip n Savor wine tasting is more than just an event. It’s a celebration of the rich heritage and culinary traditions of Europe.
