Beautiful fall bocce weather

The fall bocce season is in full swing at Robson Ranch, with games starting on Aug. 26 for the newly introduced Gigante and Persico Divisions, which play on Monday nights. The remaining divisions began their fall competition the following week, beginning Sept. 2. Fortunately, weather disruptions have been minimal, allowing for smooth play across all divisions.

With 14 divisions, 10 teams per division, and 8 to 12 players on each team, organizing matches for Monday through Friday is no small task. The games are held on the patio, which is also used for other events throughout the week, adding to the complexity. John Humphries and the Bocce Board have been instrumental in scheduling and ensuring the smooth operation of the season. Their hard work and attention to detail have made it possible to accommodate all the teams.

The growing popularity of bocce at Robson Ranch is evident, and players are looking forward to the completion of the new courts. Once ready, the new courts will simplify the scheduling process by providing dedicated days and times for the Bocce Club. In addition, players will benefit from more time slots for team practices, tournaments, and both singles and doubles leagues. There will also be opportunities for residents to reserve the courts for casual games with family and friends. These improvements mark an exciting time for the bocce community at Robson Ranch.

Bocce is an ancient sport. The word “bocce” comes from the Italian word “boccia,” meaning ball. The sport as we know it today became popular in Italy where it evolved into a structured game with formal rules.

Bocce’s appeal lies in its simplicity. Players take turns rolling a small ball, called a pallino, down the court. The goal is to get larger balls, called boccia balls, as close as possible to the pallino. Players can also knock opponents’ balls away, adding a strategic element to the game. The game is easy to learn and can be enjoyed by people of all ages, which has contributed to its global appeal. The game’s social nature and laid-back pace make it a favorite among retirees and communities like Robson Ranch where it has become a well-loved pastime.

As bocce continues to grow in popularity at Robson Ranch, the upcoming changes, including the new courts, are sure to enhance the experience for both seasoned players and newcomers alike. Whether for friendly competition or just a casual game, bocce offers an engaging way for residents to stay active and socialize.

With the fall season underway, the Robson Ranch bocce community is ready for another successful and exciting season.
