From the Office of the County Commissioner: Many Road Projects Coming Our Way!

Commissioner Dianne Edmondson

It’s an exciting and busy time to be your County Commissioner, and I am so honored to be serving you all right now!

Thanks to the voters’ approval of a $650 million roads bond package in 2022, the County has been working away to get various road projects started, including several right here in Precinct 4.

The top of my list has always been Strader Road between Hwy. 156 and Faught Road, just west of Robson Ranch. Many of us have used this road, which acts as an extension of Robson Ranch Road, and have been concerned for years about its poor condition.

Now we finally are beginning the engineering on this project, which will make it much easier and safer to get onto Hwy. 156 west of Robson Ranch. Because there is virtually no drainage on this flat, two-lane country road, there will have to be significant land acquisition and detailed engineering work done to enable actual construction.

Other area projects that will interest most of our community will include the reconstruction and widening of the two-lane rural Hwy. 377 at Argyle into a four-lane, divided urban roadway stretching from FM 1171 to Crawford Road/Country Club Road, joining its counterpart in Denton and heading north to the county line. The environmental clearance was obtained in early 2019, and the Right of Way acquisition was completed two years later. The engineering plans will be completed by year’s end, and the project will be ready to let for construction mid next year and is fully funded at about $136 million.

Another important roadway for us here in Robson is the reconstruction and widening of FM 407 from Gateway Drive to Cleveland Gibbs. This 1.4-mile-long roadway will become an urban roadway, including improvements to the I-35 W/FM 407 bridge, with an estimated cost of $26 million. Environmental Clearance was completed last year, and Right of Way acquisition is underway now. Utility relocations are expected to be completed by next summer, and it should also be ready to let for construction about that same time.

There are several other projects also coming up that will be of interest to our community, and I plan to have a more complete update after the first of the year. Please watch for HOA announcements about the update.

Lots of traffic issues will be resulting from these projects, but we will try to keep you posted as much as possible through our newsletter and traffic alerts. If you don’t currently get those, please email a request to [email protected] to be added to the list.
