A Time and a Purpose for All Things

Paint & Palette Club Christmas party

Rosie Bouse

Not long after October’s pumpkins had been prepared into November’s palate-pleasing Thanksgiving pies, December’s parties produced pounds of pasties, plum puddings, more pies, and perhaps a few more pounds for each of us! Such was the spread at Paint & Palette’s Christmas party. Deb’s dessert was not only picture perfect but decadent.

Mary Riewe generously offered her home for the gathering where members cheerfully congregated, celebrating their successes throughout the previous year. Holiday greetings were exchanged as attendees shared finger foods and pleasant conversations. What laughs we artists had playing Pictionary! All present were filled with inspiration from hostess Mary’s paintings and creative touches throughout her “painter’s palace.”

January has been a time to ponder, “What shall we produce this year?”

Heading to Michael’s or Dick Blick’s websites, we went to peruse possibilities for transforming those gift cards into supplies like “Paints & Palettes,” pens, parchment, and paper supplies. “What pretty present could we produce for the perfect Valentine for a partner, friend, or spouse?” Perhaps a card made of a print of one of our original paintings with a pretty verse penned upon it?

“There is a time and a purpose” for the painting and productions done by our Paint & Palette Club members. Some members paint to decorate their homes, and others create pieces to delight persons in their lives. The portraits, paintings, pictures, fancy papers, collages, and books produced are products of personal inspiration, produced with delight and the purpose of pleasing others.

Participants in our Third Monday monthly presentations find challenge and pleasure as they learn to produce new forms of art, which can be presented as lovely gifts. That is perhaps one of the many reasons why members of this club enjoy gathering in Room 103, the Indian Paintbrush Room, of the CATC building. It is a pleasant atmosphere in which members share their expertise in various forms of art. New members are welcome, and membership fees are nominal. Our monthly Show and Share sessions are helpful in completing our projects. These are most often facilitated by club member Amy Schnoll, a life-long painter, collage creator, jewelry designer, and portrait artist who has a wealth of knowledge to share. Feel free to stop by with any questions you may have about the club.

When Paint & Palette Club members are not working away the holiday pounds at the Pinnacle Sport Center (Ho, Ho, Ho!), you will find these artists in the Indian Paintbrush Room (Room 103) in the CATC building every Monday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and during open studio on Fridays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Here they will be “exercising” their artistic abilities and collaborating on new ideas for the club for this upcoming year.

Be sure to watch for our new window display in the CATC building. Artists will be showing some of their favorite pieces.
