When a certain month comes to mind, we often associate it with a color. For instance, in December, red and green are popular. Think of orange and brown for October and November. July is always associated with red, white, and blue. For March, think green, as we associate it with St. Patrick’s Day.
We Texans suffer through many months of cold weather. To add insult to this, we have to look at lawns that have turned an ugly brown. We look forward to seeing our lawns turn “green” again.
Yes, I realize that our club has nothing to do with the color of turf, so, instead, we happily settled on green for our March window display. The card we made in our February class was a lovely mixture of different greens. It was designed by Vicki Baker. As always, each member received a kit with a few different color choices of paper. To make it, we folded paper, pleated it, glued, stamped, and used a die cut machine. It is a relatively fast card to make depending on one’s skill set. It is adaptable to many occasions and can be made from scrap papers on hand. Card makers do not always want to make a time-consuming card that has intricate cutting, measuring, folding, and artwork.
There is a need for members to step up and design a card for one of our monthly meetings. There’s no need to be intimidated, as many of our experienced members will help you find a design and mentor you through the process.
Many of us look forward to celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on March 17. We don’t even need to have Irish blood to enjoy this holiday. Did you know that there are many other holidays to celebrate in March? What about celebrating National Corn Dog Day on the 18th? Let’s do some good on the 21st when National Common Courtesy Day is celebrated. National Crayon Day is celebrated on March 31. My personal favorite is National Goof Off Day on the 22nd. There are many more national holidays, so do a search to find them.
I want to give a pat on the back to our club. It is not all frivolous card making. We also give back to our community by making cards for SOT, which is the acronym for Support Our Troops here at Robson Ranch. Cards are made and handed over to the SOT club to address and send to military members of Robson families who are deployed overseas. Another worthwhile endeavor is making cards for Operation Shower. Its mission is to ease the stress of a spouse’s deployment by hosting baby showers for military families across the country. There are large corporate sponsors who provide gifts that would be beyond the budget of many military families. For more information regarding this worthwhile organization, go to www.operationshower.org.
