Our annual SOT Golf Tournament and fundraiser is coming up on Friday, April 25. It has always been a great time and terrific event that helps us support those men and women who serve in our military. So many people here at the Ranch help support this organization, including the staff at Robson and the Robson Sales organization. Many outside organizations and Robson residents also step up with their sponsorships. This year Grapevine Golf Carts, who is opening their newest store across the street, has become a Platinum Sponsor and is also sponsoring a Hole-in-One Contest for a golf cart on the south course 7th hole. Applications to play in the golf tournament will go out mid-March to all SOT members and those who played in the tournament last year. Active military play for free, courtesy of Robson. The tournament is open to both men and women, with separate prizes for all-women teams. Breakfast and lunch are included with your entry, along with a chance to bid on our Silent Auction items. Volunteers are always needed, and hole sponsorships are available for $150. If you have not gotten a form to play, they are available in the Pro Shop.
In January, we shipped 29 boxes to the 10 troops we support who are currently deployed. They are in Bahrain, South Korea, Qatar, Guam, Japan, the UK, Poland, and at sea. Cards, which are made by our creative Sassy Stampers, are sent every month to those deployed, and periodically to those non-deployed, with messages written by our SOT members. We currently support 92 active-duty military.
The Young Men’s Service League from Argyle came in February to write to the troops and listen to a Robson Ranch veteran tell their story. This month’s Robson veteran presenter was U.S. Army Major Tom Reynolds (Retired). Major Reynolds served in Vietnam; White Sands, N.M.; and Germany. He was an electromagnetic warfare specialist.
On Saturday, March 29, SOT will hold its second annual get-together on the patio of the Wildhorse Grill from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be a cash bar and games. Please put it on your calendar and plan to attend! We look forward to seeing you there.
We offer flag kits so that you can display the U.S. flag in your yard. They will be installed by members of SOT. The flag kit costs $60, and we use only U.S.-made flags. If you already have a flagpole installed and need a new flag, they can be ordered for $30 and will be delivered to you. The person to call to order is Quinn Sowell at 940-262-1106.
SOT meetings are on the second Monday of the month at 1 p.m. at the clubhouse. You do not have to be former military to join our group, and we look forward to seeing you then.
