The woodshop continues to see improvements, thanks to the efforts of Greg Kohn, a dedicated member known for identifying issues and finding solutions. Over the past year, Kohn has designed and built various storage solutions to improve organization and efficiency in the shop.
Last year, Kohn noticed the need for better storage for sleds, miter gauges, and jigs. After receiving approval from the board, he and fellow woodworker Dave Popejoy built a shelving system to keep these items neatly stored. More recently, he tackled the cluttered sink area, designing and constructing a shelving unit to organize pencils, tape measures, and tools that had previously crowded the countertop.
In December, while the CATC facility closed for carpet installation, the woodshop took advantage of the downtime to complete several maintenance projects. A team of volunteers worked on essential tasks, including relocating duct pipes, reorganizing closets, and cleaning dust collection filters. Kohn contributed by designing and building racks to store the shop’s drills more efficiently. Other improvements included labeling circuit breakers, lubricating the planer, installing new foam over the chip guard, and tidying up the wiring near the CNC machine.
The team of volunteers, including Dave Popejoy, Sue Wells, Larry Daniels, Allen Ajimura, Teresa Capps-McGill, Frank Hunter, and Kathy Dial, played a key role in these upgrades. Their efforts helped streamline the shop’s workflow and create more usable space.
Greg’s contributions did not stop there. Recognizing another area in need of organization, he designed and built a shelving unit to store pneumatic drills and attachments. Additionally, he designed and constructed five custom tables for the CATC, improving accessibility to doors after the installation of special locks. His custom-designed tables were installed outside of the woodshop, the library, the Indian Paintbrush Room (103) and the Blue Bonnet Room (104).
Through his ongoing efforts, Kohn continues to make a lasting impact not only on the woodshop but the CATC building, ensuring a more organized and efficient workspace for woodshop members and fellow users of the various rooms in the CATC.
