It was a beautiful, sunny, breezy, 80-degree afternoon at 3 p.m. on April 14. All Robson Ranch residents were invited to a Quilts of Valor (QOV) Awards Ceremony at the flagpole in RR’s Veterans Park. Six residents of Silver Rock Way were honored with a Quilt of Valor. Barbara Angel, a QOV representative for Denton County, was on hand to award the quilts. The ceremony was attended by many Silver Rock Way residents, members of the Support Our Troops club, and other RR residents.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation was started in 2003, and their mission is to wrap service members and veterans with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. A Quilt of Valor says to each veteran, “Thank you for your service, sacrifice, and valor in serving our nation,” so we can all enjoy the freedom we have. This is a quote from the Quilts of Valor Foundation website at qovf.org. The quilts are handmade (hand- or machine-quilted) and are personally labeled for each recipient. More than 408,000 Quilts of Valor have been awarded to date.

Veterans who have been honorably discharged, are active-duty National Guard, or who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces or Reserves are eligible for a Quilt of Valor. If you meet these criteria and wish to receive a Quilt of Valor, please contact Cathy Kreter at [email protected]. She will provide you with a nomination form to complete and submit. We hope to award Quilts of Valor to all Robson Ranch veterans who are interested in receiving one, and we plan to hold awards ceremonies a couple of times a year.
