Every family has a story. Come discover yours!

It’s been a lively summer for the Robson Ranch Genealogy Club, with members engaging in programs that deepen their connection to family history. From expert speakers and hands-on Help Sessions to a special outing at the Dallas Public Library, the season has offered something for everyone, and there’s more ahead.
In May, genetic genealogist Kate Penney Howard presented “Filling in Those Pesky Blanks: Solving Maternal Surname Mysteries with DNA,” demonstrating how DNA clustering and traditional research can uncover the surnames of female ancestors. In June, Dick Remski, former president of the Photography Club, showed how modern tools can restore aging family photos—from tintypes to early digital snapshots.
Later that month, members toured the Genealogy Department of the Dallas Public Library, home to more than 80,000 books, extensive microfilm and microfiche, and one of the nation’s top collections of genealogical maps and charts.
July brought a helpful session from club member Emily Richardson who introduced us to new features on FamilySearch.org, including Full Text Search and a revamped Library Catalog. Members left inspired to explore these valuable research tools.
Looking ahead to fall, there’s even more in store. On Aug. 11 the club will host another Help Session—open to all—offering one-on-one guidance from seasoned researchers. On Aug. 19, genealogist Diane Richard will join us via Zoom to explore overlooked online resources such as Internet Archive, JSTOR, and HathiTrust.
Emily Richardson returns on Sept. 2 to demystify lineage societies—from DAR to ethnic and religious heritage groups—explaining how to determine eligibility and apply. On Sept. 8 a combined Help Session and Stirpes Study Group will be held. Then on Sept. 16, Geoff Gentilini of the National Archives in St. Louis will offer a video presentation on using 20th century military service records to enhance your family history.
All club events are held in Room 104 of the Creative Arts and Technology Center. Presentations typically occur at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. Help Sessions are scheduled for the second Monday at 2 p.m. These informal sessions are ideal for refining questions, navigating online databases, or exploring new tools like AI.
Newcomers are always welcome. Your first visit is free, and annual membership is just $20. Whether you’re a curious beginner or a seasoned family historian, the Robson Ranch Genealogy Club offers a warm and enthusiastic community eager to help you discover your roots.
We hope to see you at an upcoming meeting. Until then, Happy Ancestor Hunting!
