Fall is in the air. Pumpkin spiced “everything” is for sale. Autumn is one of my favorite times of the year. The weather is starting to be crisper, with less humidity, and maple trees are beginning to turn to gold and orange.

There are talented gals in the Sassy Stampers who decorate our club window every month. Cherlyn Conway and Cynde Rodriquez put together our patriotic cards in a wonderful display to honor the Support Our Troops club. April Bayne and Jean Euker always come up with wonderful ideas to make our Card of the Month display. Please enjoy our window the next time you come to the CATC building.

The card we learned to make in class was an “easy” fold. At least that is what lead teacher Lynn McKeown kept telling us. If you do not belong to our club or if you are a new member, this is what happens: On the third Saturday of the month, our club members come together and the table teachers show groups of four how to make a new card. Some preparation has been done well in advance of this to make it a seamless process. The lead teacher of the month has chosen a design and put together 70 kits, ready for each class member. On the Friday, one week prior, table teachers were taught how to make the card by the lead teacher. In this case, Lynn had an origami fold for us to learn. The word of the morning was “simple.” “You just fold like this, and then turn your paper and fold this way,” said Lynn. “Say what? Say how?” many of us exclaimed. “My fold is not doing what yours is doing.” “How do I bring the two diagonals together to make a square?” I was never good at geometry. “Lynn, I thought you said that this was going to be simple!” Smarty-pants Lynn had lots of scrap paper for us to practice on. As the saying goes, “Practice does make perfect.” We finally did get it. Most of the table teachers go home and make additional cards so that we don’t look like dummies when we teach those who sit at our table during class. Just as Lynn had said, “It was simple.” In fact, I had so much fun with this fold that I made four cards.
