Support Our Troops

Summer is almost over, but we are looking forward to a wonderful fall, which includes Veterans Day on Nov. 11. This is the time we celebrate all our veterans here at the Ranch with music by the Robson Choir and the SOT Auction at the clubhouse. This exciting Support Our Troops (SOT) fundraiser is a way we can support all those in the military who presently serve our country. There will be terrific items for sale at the auction, and all the money we raise goes to those troops and their families.

We now support 98 troops, 12 of whom are presently deployed in Guam, Qatar, Greece, Singapore, the UK, Korea, Estonia, Australia, Iraq, and waters. In July we sent 36 boxes of goodies to those deployed troops. Our Sassy Stampers make beautiful cards, which are sent out to the deployed troops every month. Each card will have a personal message written by our SOT members. Troops who aren’t deployed also get cards every quarter.

The Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) is a national organization that includes young high school men and their moms who are interested in helping support others. The Argyle chapter of YMSL comes every month to Robson to meet with SOT members. They will write letters to the troops and listen to a veteran from Robson talk about their prior service. They also help us at our events. They were here for the 4th of July parade, and we do thank them for their help and participation.

Flag Day and Veterans Day are coming up, and if you need a flag, we offer flag kits which we will set up for you. The flag kit includes the pole and will be installed by SOT. The cost is $60 (we use only USA-made flags). If you already have a flag pole and just need a flag, the cost is only $30, and it will be delivered to you. SOT meets on the second Monday of the month at 1 p.m. in the clubhouse. You do not have to be a veteran to join SOT. Our meetings are a great way to be a part of something really important. Hope to see you at our next meeting!
