Listen up, y’all!

March is an exciting month! On the 17th we all love to celebrate the spirit of Irish heritage with parades, food, and libations. For many motorcyclists, it is an annual renewal. For those hearty souls who ride all year long regardless of the weather, it’s just another month. But for those of us who hibernate our rides during the cold months, it is a time of inspiration and joy.
There is much to do to get prepared. Has that iron horse been on a trickle charger for the winter? How long has that fuel been in the tank since you last took a ride? And what about that dust that’s been collecting on the surface?
Another of our rites of spring was the RR Motorcycle Club Orientation and Safety meeting held Feb. 11. About 20 members were in attendance. Club President Mike Conley again did a great job of discussing the often-neglected but most important topic.
Learning common hand signals is critical for bikers. Riding behind a road captain is like having a front seat at an orchestral concert watching the conductor. The arms or legs waving in rhythmic movements, each signifying a pending tactic, move. If you are at the back, you watch the riders move their steeds in response to the waving of the hands. It is a thing of beauty. But the beauty has function. The road captain is responsible for the safe and steady movement of the motorcycles in their group through the steady stream of traffic, road undulations, obstacles, road repairs, closures, and other potential hazards. We are now ready to roll!
Let’s welcome new club members Jana and Craig Buchmann, Jake Mackie, and Alan Young. Thanks for joining us. Hope you can lead a ride soon. We look forward to many miles, meals, and smiles with all of you.
The Robson Ranch Club Open House on Feb. 7 was a good time. The best part is hearing stories from residents who previously had ridden a motorcycle and feeling the joy they experienced as they related the good times and the predicaments they got themselves into. Thanks to Mike Conley for the always-great slideshow, and thanks to the members who staffed the table.
On March 20 Tony Thomas has something special brewing: a lunch ride to Nocona Beer and Brewery up on US 82. This will include the added attraction of visiting the Nocona Baseball Glove and Leather Factory.
For April, the lunch ride on the 15th will be to the Loftis Barndominium in Rhome, Texas. Ride Captain Carrylyn Jacobs’ charm, combined with Scott Loftis’ kindness and generosity, will make this a whole RR Motorcycle Club family fun event.
On the horizon: The Hill Country Ride (May), Angel Fire/Gunnison/Black Canyon (August), and the trek to Granbury to see Footloose (October).
See you on the road!
Beware of cagers and keep the rubber side down.
