With the primary elections fast approaching, the Robson Ranch Republican Club strives to inform voters about the candidates and the issues on the ballot in both the March 3 primary election as well as the midterm elections scheduled in November of this year.
Through the use of forums, the club works to expose our members to as many political leaders or want-to-be leaders as possible. The club also strives to educate the members on the duties and responsibilities of the offices being decided in this year’s election.
The Feb. 4 forum was no exception. That evening, Mindy Bumgarner spoke to the club members. Mindy is a Republican candidate for District 14 for State Board of Education. She is a Flower Mound resident and wife of State Rep. Ben Bumgarner. Even though Mindy is running unopposed as a Republican candidate in the primary election, she will be up against a formidable opponent in November.
Our moderator Tom Dollahite asked Mindy some pertinent questions about the position she seeks and how she would approach the job if she is elected to fill the position. Mindy said that she supports school choice and public charters. Her goal is to improve Texas children’s education by getting back to the basics instead of focusing on political views. She supports the KISS approach—keeping our education focused on reading, math, and real-life skills. Giving families a voice in their children’s education is one of the mottos of her campaign.
That same evening, we also gave the two candidates running for House District 64 (HD64) an opportunity to speak to Robson Ranch residents. Representative Andy Hopper and his challenger Lisa McEntire both expressed their views on the issues facing that office and why each of them believes that they were the best candidate for the position. On some matters, the two candidates agreed; both want Sharia Law outlawed. Andy also wants to outlaw hijabs and bourkas. Lisa took the opportunity to denounce the position of some feminists who maintain that they strongly stand for women’s rights while registering indifference to the subjection of women under strict Muslim practice. While the debate was lively at times, each candidate was able to convey their position to the audience. May the best candidate come out on top on March 3 and represent the Republican party in the November midterm.
The Robson Ranch Republican Club’s forums exposed Robson residents to various candidates running for many different offices over the past few months. The Republican Club strives to keep you informed so that you can make an informed judgment at the polls. Remember that every vote counts in both the primary and the mid-term election in November. In the end, it is all up to you, the voter, to determine who ultimately wins at the polls.
