BJ’s is finally open in Denton. It is located just slightly south of town off 35E in the same area as Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant. They are open for lunch and dinner and would be a great place to grab a bite before or after going to the movies in the Denton Cinemark.
BJ’s not only has a wide food menu, they also have a wide beer menu, some of which are available only at BJ’s. They have a full bar including mixed drinks and wine. Wine is half price on Tuesdays, but there is happy hour every day. Some of their beers and both their root beer and cream soda are homemade. (They have their own brewery.) I tried their blonde beer and liked it. Dwight thought the root beer was very good.
We ordered their Pepperoni Pizza Dip ($6.25) for an appetizer to mixed reviews. I like it but others didn’t. There is a wide variety of appetizers available from $7.50 for nachos to $10.95 for avocado egg rolls, and all are large enough to share. For individual appetizers they offer Gourmet Mac and Cheese ($4.95), Mini Bruschetta ($3.75) and several others. The most intriguing sounding to me is the Corn Fritters containing jalapenos and cheese and topped with a tangy Bacon Aioli ($3.50). A number of flat bread pizzas are also available.
For my main course I ordered Cherry Chipotle Salmon with asparagus and couscous with spinach, tomato and red bell peppers ($13.95). I absolutely loved it. Dwight ordered Texas-style Chicken Fried Steak ($13.50) and said it was average and he would try something else next time. Another of our party tried Honey Lime Seared Scallops with brown rice and asparagus ($13.95) and devoured every last morsel. There is a great variety of deep dish pizzas to choose from priced from $10.50 to $24.95 depending on size and toppings. One in our party ordered one and was happy with it.
The biggest bargain looks to be the Endless Soup and Salad ($7.95), which is only available at lunch time. And by “endless” they mean as much as you want. A friend’s son tried it and tasted every soup BJ’s has. That may be my choice if we go to lunch next time. BJ’s offers a loyalty program you may want to investigate.
