According to Cyndi Lauper, “Girls just want to have fun!” That is why they turned out for the Wildhorse Lady Niners’ (WLN) season Kick-Off meeting on Feb. 12. Because it was so close to Valentine’s Day, participants were encouraged to wear red, and they did not disappoint. The view from the podium was a sweeping sea of red and lots of smiles from returning and new golfers in the WLN.
A few members of last season’s WLN Board vacated their positions after serving their term. The following members are taking up the mantle this year: Christy Peebles (Social Chair), Deb Wegman (co-Play Day Chair), Diane Prager and Laura Odom (co-Travel Chairs), Deb Williams (Membership Chair), and Brandy Walker (Golf & Greens Chair). At this meeting, board members introduced themselves and spoke briefly about their responsibilities.
Christy Peebles and her Social Committee members Lynne Pengelly, Lori Hanna, and Nancy Johnson did a fabulous job creating a welcoming and fun atmosphere. They cleverly chose donuts with green icing topped by a donut hole in the center and a flag stating “Hole-in-One.” In keeping with Valentine’s Day, heart-shaped table centerpieces read, “Fairways and Friendships,” which is this season’s focus/theme for the WLN. Linda Kriz manages our Buddy program, which partners an established WLN golfer with a new member. The main goal of this program is to help settle some of the jitters of new members being thrown into a sea of people they haven’t met yet and to establish better WLN golfers. We also introduced our 2026 spring golf shirt at this meeting and gave the ladies an opportunity to order. We discussed this season’s Calendar of Events, so members are aware of and excited for the good times ahead.
The WLN held its New Member meeting on Feb. 25. This meeting was for those just beginning the game of golf as well as seasoned golfers new to Robson Ranch. Attendees were informed how to sign up for play days and encouraged to watch for the emails to choose to play. As you may know, the South Course at Robson is under improvement and will not be available for play a good portion of the year. That limits us to 72 players on WLN play days, and those 72 openings will go fast! The importance of informing the Play Day Chair if a player has signed up to play and then finds she cannot play after all was stressed due to the limited number of spots available. The ladies were also given information on check-in procedures on play days and were made aware they should not enter their scores in the USGA GHIN on WLN organized play days. They were introduced to and downloaded the Golf Genius app and the USGA GHIN app. It was an informative meeting and broke the ice for all of our new members.
Welcome to the new Wildhorse Lady Niners and all returning members! Let the games begin!
