Birthday cake, mini cupcakes, and family photo at the home of Ken and Elma Hinson, hosts for the November 2025 AASG Birthday Bash. Happy Birthday, y’all!

Sunday afternoon, Nov. 23, was filled with smiles, good food, and great company as the Robson Ranch African American Social Group (AASG) gathered at the home of Ken and Elma Hinson for a festive fall birthday celebration! Members whose birthdays fall between September and December were the stars of the day, but with about 30 AASG friends, family, and neighbors in attendance, it quickly became a full-on community party.
The menu was a showstopper all on its own. Elma’s cousin Mike Greer, proud owner of Grillo’s BBQ, a Dallas-based food truck catering business, treated everyone to plates of smoked jerk chicken, tender brisket, red beans and rice, and collard greens. It was the kind of meal that has people going back for seconds, and maybe thirds.
Of course, no birthday celebration is complete without dessert. The birthday honorees enjoyed candle-lit slices of a delicious cake, while everyone else dug into mini cupcakes and adorable mini sweet potato pies. Those pies, lovingly baked by club member Renee Smith, were such a hit that folks joked she may need to open her own bakery one day.
These seasonal birthday gatherings are open to all AASG members and are all about community—celebrating life, laughter, and good times together. The next celebration, for members with birthdays from January through April, is already in the works. Date, time, and location are still TBD, but the fun is guaranteed.
