Annual Meeting Merriment and September Book Talk

FOL annual meeting attendees were excited to win great prizes!

Becky Frusher

On July 16 the library welcomed 50 Friends of the Library (FOL) club members to review the results of their previous year’s efforts, plan for the upcoming year, and bestow three tables’ worth of wonderful prizes!

Speaking of prizes, did we have a haul! Our generous CATC neighbors donated a wide variety of homemade crafts, including quilted items, woodwork, pottery, origami, cards, and more. Gift cards included Barnes & Noble and Patchouli Joe’s. The Wildhorse Grill donated two $55 gift cards, and the Robson HOA gifted two tickets to the Hot Yeah dinner and show event. The FOL appreciates these amazing donors whose substantial gifts allowed us to award lots of happy winners!

The agenda began as officers were elected and installed, including Dianna Lucas as chair, Deborah Diehl as immediate past chair (formerly Elaine Kushmaul), Megg Galloway as vice chair, Frannie Howard as treasurer, and Liz Handley as secretary (formerly Debbie Blackburn). FOL leadership past and present wish to thank all of our officers and volunteers for making this past year an unqualified success!

Fundraising efforts for the 2024-25 fiscal year totaled $3,002 and include donations and proceeds from the inaugural Halloween Party. These funds and membership dues are used to purchase books, subscriptions, supplies, and equipment and for library volunteer recognition, book talks, and other events.

Want to volunteer? Committees with volunteer opportunities include Fundraising, Events & Activities, Book Talk Selections, and Publicity. If you’re interested, please inquire at the library. Planning for the Second Annual Halloween Party, including a costume contest and cake walk, begins this month. Don’t miss out on the fun!

Library membership (which is free and a one-time registration) is separate from FOL club membership. FOL dues are just $10 per year and must be renewed annually. You can drop off your new or renewal membership application and dues during staffed library hours or visit RRTXFOL.org to join or renew online.

Please remember to bring your HOA card or app to scan in and out of the library (and other CATC rooms). If you don’t have one or the other, visit the HOA office.

September Book Talk: The Rose Code

Join us in the library on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 2:30 p.m. to discuss Kate Quinn’s heart-stopping World War II story of three female code breakers at Bletchley Park and the spy they must root out after the war is over. Presented by Sonya Smith and Becky Frusher.
