Visions of unsurpassed fishing drew us to Kississing Lake Lodge in Manitoba, Canada. Foregoing luxurious accommodations and guides who have plied the local waters for decades, members of the RR Fishing Club opted for a more rustic fishing adventure. With luggage and gear in hand, a float plane touched down on the runway in Flin Flon where the pilot picked us up for a scenic 45-minute flight. We landed on the bay just outside our final destination—a remote cabin where access to the fish-rich waters awaited.

For most, the attraction of Kississing Lake Lodge is to unwind and unplug. Not for us. We had our sights on fishing isolated Siers Lake. Located 40 miles from the nearest road, Siers Lake puts the “wild” into wilderness, with nine exclusive fly-in outpost camps. Supplied with boats, fuel, and all the basic necessities, we focused on the adventure of a lifetime—fishing a private lake we had all to ourselves.

Our outpost cabin was the sole structure located on pristine Siers Lake. Although the lake is small in size, the fishing didn’t suffer, offering world-class trophy angling for northern pike, walleye, and lake trout. And with endless summer days, the sun goes down for only about six hours each night, giving us opportunities to fish long after dinner was done.

We welcomed each morning with the aroma of freshly perked coffee and caught the last wispy patches of fog rolling off the lake. Leaving the cozy comforts of our hideaway cabin, we hopped into our boat, charted our course, and searched out the monster fish teeming just below the water’s surface!

Siers Lake was open to countless bays, islands, and channels to explore, with hot spots dotting the map. Being mid-summer, our optimism was tempered somewhat by the typical slowdown in action that hot weather in August is notorious for. Those assumptions were quickly smashed. The fishing was intense, both in numbers and size, targeting both walleye and northern pike, with a few sessions dedicated to lake trout.

Dinners each night trumped even our most delicious breakfasts. Our own fish caught each day and cooked on our own grill—so fresh and delectable, the meals in this wilderness would be long savored.

Well, it happened again! We don’t ever tire of saying this adventure was our best yet! Picture it: Limitless fish for the joyful taking. Air so fresh we wanted to gulp it in. Communing with nature out all on our own. Stunning beauty of our natural surroundings. Sightings of magnificent wildlife. Plus, awe-inspiring Technicolor sunsets. Kississing Lake Lodge proved to be the perfect getaway for the ultimate adventure seeker.
