The Catholic Club met on February 11 at the home of Marianne and Ernie Diliberto. The president of Catholic Club Irene Manning opened the meeting with prayers.
Our speaker for February was Cathy Sager with the American Red Cross. Cathy has been a member of the American Red Cross for the past two years and is presently a captain on the Disaster Action Team which responds to local emergencies such as fires. Last year she and her husband assisted in the relief efforts for Hurricane Florence. Along with telling the group about all that the Red Cross does, she educated the group about how each area of the organization operates. To say the least, we were truly inspired by all that this wonderful organization does both at home and afar. We learned that 90% of The Red Cross workforces are volunteers. Cathy explained about each area of service and what types of volunteer opportunities are available. One such opportunity is with “Sound the Alarm” where volunteers install smoke alarms free of charge in high risk neighborhoods nationwide. Anyone interested in exploring these opportunities can go to www.redcross.org for more information.
The evening ended with food, drink and fellowship as all Catholic Club meeting do.
The April meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 9 and the speaker for the evening will be J. Rafael Toledo, M.D. Retired Associate Professor, Psychology Department, Behavioral Medicine Program, University of North Texas.
All are welcome.
