2024 was a very active year for the Robson Ranch Catholic Community. Our monthly gatherings were filled with exceptional speakers, and we have all come away with a renewed appreciation for our beautiful faith. Our speakers have taught and inspired us to keep moving forward in our faith journey, which is different for each member.
Our first speaker of the year was Robson Ranch resident Dr. Juanee Surprise who spoke on food and drink, “What does the Bible say?” In February our guest speaker was Deacon Mike Mocek from Holy Family Parish in Fort Worth. His presentation was about Blessed Stanley Rother and his shrine in Oklahoma City. A pilgrimage to the shrine was announced that evening, with the date set for March 26. Our March speaker was Fr. Jacob Powell, pastor of Holy Cross Church in Post, Texas, and Blessed Sacrament Church in Wilson, Texas. His topic was “The Saving Power of Suffering.” All who attended were given a copy of his book The Saving Power of Suffering. Our April speaker was Matt Gill, Director of Formation and Evangelization at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Flower Mound. Matt spoke on “Apologetics: How to Defend Your Catholic Faith in the Modern World.” Matt’s talk was both informative and inspiring. On May 11 members met on the patio of The Grill for our end-of-season social. The food was good, and the company was fantastic. All who attended had a wonderful time socializing.
Along with our monthly gatherings, our group has gone on field trips to places like Blessed Stanley Rother Shine in Oklahoma City and the Israel Prayer Garden located at Global Spheres Center in Corinth. We’ve had movie matinees in the clubhouse, an Oktoberfest, and we even have our own RRCC Potluck Dinner group.
When we ramped up again in the fall, our first speaker was Samuel Macaraeg, head of Campus Ministry for UNT and TWU. Sam is passionate about building structures in ministry that are effective, relevant, and possible. His talk, “It Takes a Village … Our Role in Raising the Next Generation of Catholics,” cultivates awareness of how each person can contribute to the broader Catholic Church’s success in the Denton area. On Oct. 8 we had another wonderful evening, with David Powell speaking on the “New Eve and Queen of Heaven.” Once again the evening was inspiring and uplifting. November was our final official meeting for 2024, and our speaker was retired Navy Vice Admiral Charles W. Moore, Jr., and his wife Lydia. Their topic was on the making of a saint. They spoke first-hand of a miracle experienced by Lydia’s sister Linda.
Our core mission is to support our community, and our members donated a total of 418 pounds of items to Our Daily Bread.
Our final gathering of the year was held on Dec. 3 in the clubhouse. We dined, played games, and had an amazing time together wishing each other a very Merry Christmas and Blessings in 2025.
